background

Cause

In the current market of room dividers, bulky and unrefined options dominate. Many claim to reduce noise significantly, but in reality, sound still travels through or around them all. According to Gustavsson, an expert in office construction at Nomad Projekt, noise reduction is most effectively achieved by proper wall, ceiling, and floor design. Therefore, room dividers serve better as visual noise reducers, allowing for a sleek and adaptable design approach.

Change

Tegi, is a slim and versatile alternative specifically designed to shield users from their surroundings, communicate their level of occupation to those nearby, and seamlessly allowing the user to transition between private, semi-private, and public. Tegi is made possible with PCLD-technology.

PCLD?
PCDL stands for "polymer dispersed cholesteric liquid crystal," which refers to the way the liquid crystal molecules are dispersed in a polymer matrix to create a unique optical effect. When voltage is applied to PCDL film, the liquid crystal molecules align and reflect light differently, creating a change in opacity. This effect allows for the transition between transparent and opaque. PCLD consume less energy than a normal LED light bulb.

research

Insufficient productivity

Neuroscientist, Katarina Gospic at Karolinska Institutet, suggests that working in open office landscapes can reduce productivity by up to 66%. Additionally, in Sweden, 48% of office workers lack access to individual conference rooms. Gospic also proposes that it can take up to 25 min to regain focus after being interrupted.

Increase in sick days

A Danish research paper published by Scand J Work Environ Health, shows that individuals working in open office landscapes are absent from work due to sickness for an average of 7-8 days per year, compared to those with a separate office who have an average of 5 sick days per year.

The Tegi family consists of two models, Ampio and Piccolo, the bigger and the smaller. Ampio is designed to partition entire spaces into sections, making it ideal for short conferences or team activities. Piccolo, on the other hand, functions as a desk divider, allowing individuals to customize their level of privacy while working.

Material analysis

Tegi's CMF is designed to blend seamlessly into most environments with a focus on subtle and calm values. The materials selected for Tegi take into account their end-of-life (EOL) sustainability. The frame is made of aluminium for the material's ability to maintain its quality even after being recycled. Additionally, clear recycled acrylic is now available on the market as an alternative. Potential materials for the Piccolo hinge are natural rubber as a core with a hemp fibre fabric outer for it's durable and flexible properties.
